You guys need to understand your animals digestive needs. If it was simple, then we can feed them meat scraps from our table. But, as you know, if you fed them meat scraps your pets would develop a nasty case of the shitz. Their system can not handle it. This is why protein, or amino acids, must be carefully selected from multiple sources to maximize absorbsion while maintaining your pets digestive system.

My cat gets chicken.I prepaire the chicken by cooking it plain and removing any fat thats in there. On occassion he gets a peice of my salmon filet cooked seperately with no additives.
And he loves corn straight from the can. Other than that he gets a grain based treat a couple of times a day. This helps keep his stool solid.

If i leave for a long time he gets high quality cat food in the automatic feeder.

My vet also said hes one of the healthiest cats with the best coat that he's ever seen.

Sure pets have dietary needs. But just don't give them anything they wouldnt eat out in the wild. So many of our pets are overwieght and unhealthy these days because of the fillers put in their "scientifically developed" store bought foods.

Cats & Dogs have been w/ humans for how many thousands of years ? They got along w/ whatever we fed them quite well. Canned "designer" food is a pretty new idea and not necessaryly the best you can do to your pet. Even tho I switched foods only about a month and a half ago the coats of my cats have considerably improved. That alone tells me that I better select food very carefully in the future.

Heads up, my pet food dealer just gave me a handout:

Quote:
To Our Valued Natura Customers

The Natura company (makers of Innova, California Natural, EVO & Karma) is currently negotiating the sale of their company to Procter & Gamble.

[..]

To see details of the sale visit www.naturapet.com

Procter & Gamble ?? F*** them, I'm done w/ Natura.

I am a pet food retailer, and a Natura Pet food dealer as well. We received a letter saying the deal has gone through already. I am very skeptical about the direction that Natura Pet foods will be heading. I went through this back in the late '90's when P & G bought out Iams. They(P&G) made claims to us independent retailers that they would not put Iam's products in big box retail outlets. But after only a few months, Petco, Walmart, and local grocery stores had Iam's on their shelves. That is when we dropped the Iam's line and brought in, guess who......Natura Pet. I can remember going to a trade show in Atlantic City and having dinner with the VP of national sales and her telling us that Natura Pet would never sell out to anyone and that their distribution would always be with independent retailers. Of course, this was back in 2000 that we as dealers were told that. Amazing what 10 years can do to a successful small (but national brand) dog food manufacturer. The problem I see with NAtura Pet is that the price point for them is ultra high end. A 28.5 lb bag of their EVO adult dog food is 55.00 retail, so I see that as being a deterent to being distributed in big box stores like Walmart or your local grocery store. But hey, they COULD start bringing in inferior ingredients from China or just having it manufactured over there to cut production costs and start retailing it in Walmarts and grocery stores.
So right now we will take a wait and see stance to see where this buy out leads. We have already talked to other food manufacturers for a potential replacement for Natura Pet foods. And we have talked to our wholesale distributors reps about the impact it would have on them, and one rep told us, they were worried as well about the direction that Natura Pet might go, but wouldn't give any details. I guess they don't want to get stuck with a lot of inventory if dealers start dropping the line. No sense starting a panic amongst their own customers.

Stay tuned for further developments on this, if anyone here feeds their dogs Innova, EVO, Cal Natural, or Karma.

P&G just made the official public announcement of their purchasing of Natura Pet foods. Noe the wait and see begins. Grendel, Diamond foods makes foods ranging in quality from grocery store private label brands to premium level foods, so depending on what label you buy will mark the quality or perceived quality of the food. Which food were you looking at? A premium food that has been doing real well for us is "Taste of the Wild", it's a grain free food.

My cat has been eating Taste of the Wild and Chicken Soup for the Soul and prefers the Taste of the Wild. Plus all the mice, lizards and birds that she can catch and she is good at it.
My other cat, Mr. Kitty, had to go to sleep a couple of weeks ago, I had him for 15 years. So sad, I hate that part of owning pets. That last ride to the Vet is always a tough one. RIP Mr.Kitty

I'm sorry, Hugh. Losing a beloved pet is rough.
